INTRODUCTION

Dialogues on Diversity is an initiative that provides opportunities for
the open exchange of views about the value of diversity for our children and our society.
We encourage students, faculty, and staff to explore their views and to consider the importance of
diversity in elementary schools.
Just like the rainbow, people also come in different colors with different ideas and opinions. We must come together as one in all and all in one. Shel Silverstein once wrote:
I live in the city. Yes I do! I live in the city. Oh yes I do!
I live in the city. Yes I do! made by human hands.
White hands, black hands, yellow and brown
Altogether made this town
White hands, black hands, yellow and brown
All together made the wheels go round.

saddened to discover that on May 10, 1999, Shel Silverstein was found dead in
his apartment. I found an article about it at Banned-Width's Shel Silverstein's
Adult Works site. His poetry brightened my life as a child and continued to
inspire..."
