Although the shape of the Earth is not exactly spherical, we will assume here that it is.  The Earth has an average radius of 3,960 miles and oceans over a majority of the earth surface.  This Ice Quest will supplement what you have learned in your Geography class about global warming and greenhouse effects and also what you have learned in Math concerning space, volume, and the metric conversion.

You are about to take part in a collaborative group project that will cross multiple disciplines and teaching tools.  This exercise will give you the opportunity to explore the world, surf the Internet and test your math and geography skills without leaving the comforts of your classroom.
