You have been assigned a country located on the continent of Africa. Most of us have never been to your country and we have only our imagination or second-hand information about what your country looks like; where it is on Earth; how the people live in your country; and other geography based questions. During class you will learn about the “Themes” of geography and how these themes help us understand what life is like in places on Earth. The five themes are: place; location; movement; regions; and human/environment interaction.
What does my group have to do?
Your
country group is responsible for building a PowerPoint presentation of 12 to
15 slides. The slide program and your discussion should instruct a class of 6th
grade students in Seattle on the similarities and differences between the
country you are researching and the area of the world where we are living. You should show
with pictures and write about specific items in each theme of geography.
When you finish your presentation the 6th grade students in your class should be able to:
Identify your country by region;
Identify the differences from the place of your country and Seattle;
Identify
how different the location of your country is from Seattle;
Describe
elements of movement that have affected your country and Seattle.
You should develop one question for each of the "themes" and use these to guide your research and to focus your audience on your presentation.
