Geography of African Countries
The sixth grade curriculum in Seattle School District
includes the study of the geography of Eastern Hemisphere countries. The
African Continent remains relatively undiscovered by many students. The purpose
of this research project is to enable students to link their study of African
geography with life in the modern United States, specifically Seattle. Students
will be working in groups of two or three to research a specific country in the
modern African continent. Each student team will choose one country for
their research focus.
The students will use this WebQuest to gather information about elements of geography (place, location, regions, movement, human/environment interaction) of their assigned country. After the team has completed all their research steps, they will work together to design and present a PowerPoint presentation to the rest of the class about what they have learned. This project will last about one month.
The "big question" that we hope to answer at the end of this assignment is: What are some similarities and differences between the geography of Africa and the geography of my home in Seattle? Take the "next step" to continue on with the project.
