Projects:
Adventure Online  A site dedicated to bringing adventure and learning to 1-6 classrooms- for a price. You can sign up for a 30 day free trial and then decide if it is worth the $249 to join as an individual classroom. 
Forensic Files  Students go around the world using scientific analysis to solve an endangered species heist.
Global Learn  Sponsors teams who travel sites throughout the world. Your students can join them in these adventures.
Global SchoolNet Foundation  Global SchoolNet hosts hundreds of innovative K-12 projects. Check out this site and join one of them!
Himalayas  This is an online student project created by three students from India, the Netherlands and the United States. I include it here as an example of what students can do in collaboration with each other online. Photographs, audio files, maps, geography and history.
KIE Internet Education Project (KIE stands for the Knowledge Integration Environment) The project involves middle and high school students in science instruction and critical thinking.
Learner Online  A project site including Journey North a worldwide study of wildlife migration.
MathMagic  This is a K-12 telecommunication project which posts challenges in four categories divided by grade level. You register your students in teams to work out the math challenges.
Martian Sun-Times  In this project, students play reporters for a Martian newspaper. They research and write about Martian and Earth weather. There is a section specifically assigned to the teacher on this site as well.
MapQuest  This is an interactive mapping service that includes an interactive Atlas which allows you to find any place in the world and a TripQuest which provides city to city driving directions for the United States and parts of Canada and Mexico. Have your students plan a trip and use this site as their base for travel calculations.
Nonprofit Prophets  An interactive project for high school students. Challenges them to investigate a problem that they see in the world and then create a Web Resource page that teachers others about the problem. Designed for use as a group project site, this site provides examples of previous student work.
PEP: Cool School Sites  This site links you with projects from various places. Find one to suit your needs.
PBS Mathline  This is a multi-level math project in which you enroll your class and become a community of 25-30 participants who use videos, online materials and a national bulletin board to engage in math activities.
Project SkyMath  This is a middle school math project which incorporates real time weather data. The project incorporates the standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Scholastic Network  This is a site for which you pay. However, it has great activities mapped out by grade level and interest. See if you and your staff think it is work joining. You can preview it free for seven days.
Students as Scientists  Students go out into the field to take water samples. Their findings are posted on the Web and compared to scientific data gathered by scientists.
Weather Unit  This is a long term, integrated, curriculum project. Check it out to see its depth and usefulness. There is also a link to lesson archives of other cross-curricular units.
Web-Based Inquiry Science Environment  This is a site aimed at 5-12 students with projects and discussions on current science issues.

EMail Pals:
ePALS Classroom Exchange  K-12 site which provides students with the opportunity to write keypals from around the world. There is an online database of classrooms to chose from and you may add your class to the list. More than 70 countries participate in this list.
Intercultural E-Mail Classroom Connections  This is a free service designed to help teachers and classes link with partners in other countries and cultures for email classrooms, pen pals and project exchanges.
